- Our Story Gracepoint is a community of people who love God and want to live out their faith in a practical and meaningful way. We strive to Experience God and Engage our World Together. What does that mean you ask? Well, it means this: we want to know God more, letting His character and love for us influence and change our lives. We “experience God” by spending time with Him through scripture, prayer or gathering together for times of worship. From those experiences, we also go and “engage our world.” We strive to share His character and love as we live our everyday lives in our neighbourhoods and communities. Sometimes that means we help neighbours or care for someone “just because.” Some of us volunteer at food banks or thrift stores, coach sports or serve on civic committees to be influencers. Other times it means we go half-way across the world on an adventure because God has led us there or sponsor a refugee family to help them start a new life in Canada. Whatever God calls us to, that’s where we go as individuals and as a church. For those who like history and want to know where we came from, here is another part of Gracepoint’s story. Our church is the beautiful union of two incredible groups of Jesus followers: Peace Arch Fellowship and Panorama Community Church. To be sure, we’ve had our share of bumps and bruises, ups and downs. We have been blessed with seasons of plenty and times of want. We have delighted together and we have cried together. We have been REFINED and continue to be refined. It is a treasured part of our story. While we are now one congregation and have been for more than 10 years, our diversity of people enables Gracepoint to be a vibrant, growing group of believers. Through it all, God faithfully leads us and provides. We are thankful to have people who are gifted in so many areas and it strengthens us we follow God together. Some of us are pray-ers, some doers; some prefer to lead, some prefer to come along side, many are generous with time and resources and most importantly, we work at being light in our little corner of the world… every day. Who And What To Expect When you walk through our doors, expect to see jeans, coffee, a friendly welcome, younger, old(er), in-between-ers, people who work with their hands, professionals, highschoolers and wee ones. You will probably see someone that reminds you of, well, you. When we gather on Sunday, we grab a cup of coffee, visit with a person or two in the lobby and make our way (sometimes a little late if we’ve talked too long) into the service. We sing, we pray, we take an offering, we read the Bible and we listen to a teaching relevant to our lives and experiences. If you’re new to Gracepoint, hopefully someone will say hi and recognize your new face, but it’s possible to slip in and out if you wish. During the week, smaller groups of about 10 – 12 gather (Discipleship groups) around the city. They might dig deeper into what was taught on Sunday, do a book study, serve their community or focus on prayer. They are all a bit different but this remains constant – it is the best place to make friends and get known. What We Believe We love Jesus and do our best to follow where He leads us, period. We believe in the resurrection and that we are saved through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for us. We believe Holy Bible is God-breathed and we trust its authority. We read scripture, pray, worship Him and make time in our lives to do things that make a difference in our neighbourhoods, cities and world. We believe in God as eternal Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created and sustains the universe. The eternal purpose of God the Father is to create a people who will bring glory to God forever. God alone is worthy of worship. We believe that God became human in Jesus Christ. Jesus came to restore the world because humans have rejected God in disobedience. Jesus taught and modeled the way of God’s kingdom. He died on the cross, making it possible for us to accept a renewed relationship with God. He rose from the dead, broke the power of sin and death, and frees us to live in obedience to God’s will. We believe that God the Holy Spirit invites all people to be reconciled with God and to join the global family of faith. Believers confess their faith, are baptized, and join in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Through the power of the Holy Spirit and guided by the Bible, members of the church seek to live as followers of Christ and invite others to experience this new life. As Christians we are called to turn:from ignorance of God to a personal relationship with God from bondage of sin and past mistakes to freedom, forgiveness, and healing from individualism to interdependence with others in the local church from lifestyle choices that harm us, others, and the earth to choices that nurture wholeness, healing, joy and peace from hating enemies and ignoring neighbours to showing love and justice to all from loving possessions to sharing with all in need from aimless existence to a mission of representing and proclaiming God’s kingdom on earth. As Christians we look forward to the day when God will once again send Jesus to bring all things under God’s eternal rule.
